Yet the quality of governance that citizens experience every day is determined much closer to home. That is why local governments deserve far more attention than they currently receive. Research & Reflection ⏰ Why Evidence Matters in Public Policy Every public policy begins with a problem. The quality of the solution depends on the quality of the evidence behind it. When governments rely on assumptions instead of credible data, they risk investing scarce resources in interventions that fail to address the real needs of citizens. Evidence enables policymakers to identify priorities, allocate resources efficiently, measure outcomes, and refine interventions based on what works. I had the opportunity to facilitate a session on "Civic Innovation and the Role of Artificial Intelligence in Scaling Social Impact" during the inaugural Civic AI Acceleration Program organized by iLEAD AFRICA in partnership with the Phambano Technology Development Centre, South Africa, for civil society and nonprofit leaders in Abuja.
