NSUK TO PULLOUT OF ASUU STRIKE
OPEN LETTER TO THE HIS EXCELLENCY ENGINEER ABDULAHI SULE THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF NASARAWA STATE ON THE CALL FOR NASARAWA STATE UNIVERSITY KEFFI (ASUU CHAPTER) TO PULL OUT OF THE ONGOING PROLONGED STRIKE ACTION OF THE ACADEMIC STAFF UNION OF UNIVERSITY (ASUU) NATIONAL BODY.
Dear Sir,
I am gladdened to write you at this moment because this opportunity is very rare.
Foremost, I wish acknowledge your distinctive charisma you have geared toward ensuring the actualization of your vision for Nasarawa State which have continues to yield a remarkable result across the nookes and crannies of the State. Your administration developmental programs and policies on economy, physical infrastructural facilities, health and educational development is applauded and commendable.
I am writing to convey the utmost displeasure of all the helpless and vulnerable student of the Nasarawa State University Keffi who have been forced out of the campus with all academic activities halted for more than two months now which includes: lecturing, research, seminal and workshops which were the rationale behind the university establishment, after the ASUU NSUK chapter resolved to join the national strike, all in the name of solidarity after ASUU national body had earlier declared and embacked on Nationwide strike.
Glaringly, Nasarawa State University, Keffi was a state owned University established, financed and managed by the Nasarawa State government. Despite, this needless solidarity strike that is avoidable by our State University ASUU chapter have done more harm than good to the entire University community
The problem pose by this strike includes but not limited to the following:
A. Disruption of school
academic calendar which was still struggling to recover from the covid-19 break
B. All academic activities are on stallmate which was antithetical to the
aim of the university establishment
C. Prolonged period of study for both undergraduate and postgraduate the students
D. Expiration of rent fee for all student living off campus because of the limited school hostel accommodation
F. It have increased the nuisancy and security
threat to the state. According to a general maxim "an idle hand is a devil workshop"
G. This strike have collapsed all the economic activities around the University community and environment which was there means of daily survival.
However, while we are sympathising with the union on their plights, it should be noted that even if the ASUU NSUK chapter are having issues to settle regarding there emoluments and allowance it should be channeled to the state government through the right channel and not indiscriminately shutting
down the University all in the name of solidarity
Your Exellency, I want you to utilize and leverage on your wealth of experience, administrative powess and host of personalities of high pedigree at your disposal to come to the aid of the students and our parents with technicality to resolve the issues with the union and pull out of the strike immediately.
Furthermore, it's pertinent to pull out this strike to save our dear state from unforeseen consequences that can erupt or triggered by idleness of thousand of students on the street, to save the image and integrity of this University among other universities across the globe.
Thus, Nasarawa State is still among the educational less privileged state in Nigeria, hence we can't fold our arms at akimbo and watch this needless strike to erode quality of our State University.
I am aveiled of the challenge and bulk on your table Sir at this critical period, but this is yet another opportunity to restore the confidence of our people in your administration, a father to all and a visitor to the university.
Yours faithfully,I
IRANLOYE SOFIU TAIYE
A 300 level of the department of political science Nasarawa State University Keffi.
