NEGATING DISRUPTIVE CRITICISM  Authorizing those who are uninformed about your profession to criticize your choice of career will do nothing to you but cripple your morale and tempo to accelerate to the peak of your chosen career. The anguish that is capable of destroying you and your career is acknowledging criticism from people who are unsophisticated about the career path you have chosen.  Criticisms are pleasant as well as a tool that can significantly culminate your achievements in any career if you take critique from qualified people only. It's very good to be open to criticism but careful selection of whom you are taking the criticism from is more essential. Regardless, you need to differentiate between constructive criticism and disruptive criticism. Gone are the days when most people in our society were contented with little they have were few people possessed wealth and opulence, and a time when we sleep with our two eyes closed when we generally live in a communal state characterized by collectivism. Then we are our brother's keeper; when travelers are safe to journey in the night without any form of security threats, a time when meritocracy prevails over mediocrity, a period when criminals are not sympathized with, and when elderly people were highly respected and venerated.  The situation is quite catastrophic currently with the substitution of collectivism with individualism.
